Compounding offers several potential benefits to your patients. You may have patients that are allergic to preservatives or dyes in commercially available products. A compounding pharmacist may be able to compound a product containing the same active ingredient without the allergy-inducing dye or filler. Under your direction, a compounding pharmacist can change the dosage form of a medication to make it easier for the patient to ingest, or add flavor to it to make it more palatable.
